Creepers Hate Tacticians (Bytesize with player4709 Part 1)

Before reading, it is recommended to watch a tutorial on Tinkers' Construct, like this one by OMGCraft. You'll get a better understanding of what I'm about to show you.

This series has been canceled due to loss of interest.

I have finished my dreadful school work. I have trained for this moment. I am prepared for the challenge. I have started a serious playthrough of Bytesize with player4709.

We started at night with hostile mobs all over the place, which was disappointing considering that I joined as soon as the server started up, but I prepared for the worst.

Thankfully, we spawned on an island with a taiga biome, so I could quickly build a wooden shelter to keep us safe from hostile mobs. (I dislike dirt shelters and hiding underground without a torch.)
I built a simple wooden tower with a ladder and a platform. That way, we're unreachable by zombies and creepers, and if they try to climb, they'd get punched off. It also allowed us to jump onto trees and safely punch wood, so we weren't sitting ducks waiting for daytime.

I quickly crafted and placed the basic Tinkers' Construct tables, complete with a full pattern chest, while player4709 did a bit of mining.
Afterwards, I looked for wheat seeds, since hunger was a big early-game problem in many of my playthroughs. Unfortunately, grass and ferns were so freaking rare, and we didn't have bones. My hunger bar was drained to 0 for several in-game days in a row due to lack of seeds and zombies (and no Mo' Creatures mobs). There were cows and chickens, but there's no point in breeding without the crops to do so. Thankfully, the server was on Easy mode. I got used to Hard mode where starvation can kill the player.
Meanwhile, player4709 was pretty lucky. He found a large cave system and a lot of iron ores, as well as a dungeon. I haven't explored it, though, since I didn't want to "invade his territory", and I had my own mining hole (which I used to get cobblestone for my first Tinkers' Construct tools).

I was short on materials myself, so I continued mining in my mining hole, and I stumbled into a cave with a ton of different ores, especially iron. I also found at least one diamond ore, but I didn't mine it because I don't have Fortune.

When I finished mining, player4709 came back with a finished smeltery, a structure that smelts one ore for double the ingots, and can combine certain metals into alloys. I found a lot of copper and tin earlier, so I combined them into bronze and made bronze tool parts, which have 550 base durability and the same mining speed as a diamond pickaxe, but can only mine whatever an iron pickaxe can mine. Mining speed is important in a multiplayer adventure because it helps the team gather resources as fast as possible.
Unfortunately, a reverse creeper (from the Elemental Creepers mod) blew up near player4709 and shifted a portion of landmass near our base into the air, which destroyed one of our base entry points and made our home terrain harder to navigate.

At around this time, we got more seeds and wheat, so our food supply stabilized. I was able to restore my hunger bar to full. I then brought more cows and chickens to our mini farm (player4709 already brought some chickens in earlier).
But, just as when I thought I was alone, an electric creeper blew up behind me, and for some reason, it didn't just zap me with lightning--it zapped all the animals in our small farm, leaving nothing behind, as all the meat was destroyed. And I thought electric creepers only affected the player? Maybe it also affects nearby mobs?
To add insult to injury, an earth creeper blew up behind me yet again and spawned a lot of dirt around the blast area, blocking off another entry point. I had to dig up the dirt and use a longsword to get back to base. (Longswords in Tinkers' Construct have a special right-click move that quickly launches the player forward. It can be used to climb three-block-high areas or cross rivers.)
Lastly, not one, but TWO spider creepers blew up and not only spread cobwebs around our base, but also poisoned me a little.
For crying out loud, what do you creepers have against terrain advantages?

I got SO mad at our ruined environment, I told player4709 (who wasn't playing with me at this time) that I was going to move our base to a place with better natural terrain, and he agreed. I can't stand the restricted landmasses of islands.

I moved about 3000 blocks to a large plains biome near a desert, a forest, and the ocean. It was fairly hilly but also flat on the surface, making it ideal for a base. It also had a ravine.
I took two round trips to move our important stuff, which was a pain since I needed to do other real-life tasks, but it was worth it. I safely transported about 95% of our important things.

Trying to capture the house's foundation and the scenery at the same time.
Photography is challenging sometimes.

Meanwhile, I set up the foundation for another elevated base, but this time, it's a 13x13 house with a balcony surrounding it. There are two 6x6 bedrooms, and a 13x6 main room with cooking and crafting facilities.
I'm planning to make a basement level for storing items.
There's no roof yet, and the build lacks detail, so I'll put those later as well.

player4709 originally made a two-level, 3x3 smeltery, which can smelt 18 ores simultaneously, but I'm planning to make it into a two-level 5x5 so we can smelt 50. I already gathered a lot of sand and clay, so all that's left is the gravel. Using all three of these together makes the materials for building the smeltery.

I also need to light up a lot of the surrounding area to reduce the risk of being backstabbed.

Anyway, moral lessons: player4709 and I work better when we're split up, doing our own chores. And I should be more vigilant.

Putting the playthrough itself aside: I constantly asked player4709 and his brother Mr. Binary to start up the server yesterday, since I had several important tasks in-between play time.
But I told them I won't bother them on the day I wrote this so I could focus on my blog. After all, I wanted to make up for my hiatus which was forced upon by the oppressive overlord known as school work. Let me tell you: Writing this and Coach G-Force Part 4 was a pain in my brain, since I had to explain details in a way that (I think) can be understood by many people, and the process took hours.
I don't think I have time to fix my teams for Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!

TL;DR summary: I built a wooden tower as a shelter to avoid mobs. player4709 and I quickly and independently gathered a lot of ores and made a smeltery, but I struggled to find food. Our tower was trashed by several different Elemental Creepers, so I moved to a bigger, faraway plains biome where I partially built a new base.

P.S. I have updated my Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! team: https://reallunatictactician.blogspot.com/2018/06/my-team-for-pokemon-lets-go-eevee.html

After Killing The Mind, Kill The Body (Coach G-Force Part 4)

Again, I am SUPER glad that I am done (for now) with that cursed prison called school. I get to focus on other things that I not only enjoy doing, but also benefit my mind and body, and possibly other people, without the guilt and anxiety caused by impending doom from school work deadlines.

I haven't worked out at all for more than a week due to exam preparations, besides casual and work-related cycling for an hour or two every day. (Unlike hitting my punching bag, I can patrol my family store while cycling.)

To compensate a tiny bit for my loss of power, I ate a few pieces of bread with peanut butter for snacks. I had a heavy lunch of rice, chicken, and assorted vegetables.
Unfortunately, my walking was still slower and more relaxed than usual.

Day 7

I did almost all of my shadowboxing with a cone that I circle around and pretend it's a target.
As I've stated before, this is a reference to Minecraft strafing, where a player moves in a circle around the opposing player while attacking in order to deal damage without getting hit.
I figure that using the strafing technique in real life can potentially make a real human opponent dizzy through constant movement. It also helps strike weak points.
I used this strafing technique to dodge yet another Superman punch by Boulder.

I also practiced a combo where I throw some chip-damage punches, dodge an attack, then do a quick 180-degree spin and use a rear naked choke.
Chipping the enemy away and making them dizzy should make them less likely to escape a choke, I guess? And it also makes them easier to push and pull around, allowing me to bang their heads on a wall or my knee, or use them as meat shields.

I slightly improved on the mittwork, I think.
When Coach G-Force wants me to move, he lightly pushes my shoulder towards the direction he wants. This time, I predicted when Coach G-Force wanted me to move, so I strafed really fast and he wasn't able to touch my shoulder, since I imagined it to be an attack, just in case I get into a real fight.
I dodged attacks a bit faster without being verbally told to do so, but still struggled with the long combos. Perhaps the thought of school work was still stuck in my head.
I was told to parry more often this time, and I did so with a lot of power to pretend I was making my opponent more stressed by not only stopping their attacks, but also showing off my strength and leaving a wide-open weak point on the side of the head while the opponent's hand is down. After all, tacticians have to crush their enemies both physically and mentally.

At the end of the boxing part, I forgot to state this in earlier posts, but I'm told to do push-ups and abdominal exercises. I struggled a lot with all of them, especially the push-ups and planking. I "died" after 6 push-ups and 20 seconds of planking, but I kept going until 33 push-ups and 60 seconds of planking.

Other than these, there were no unique drills. Perhaps my mom wanted Coach G-Force to maintain a consistent, linear workout pattern?
Looks like I'll have to take uniqueness into my own hands...er, fists. Bring me the imaginary enemies!

Fortunately, Coach G-Force finally offered to ask if I wanted kicking in our next workout. I eagerly said, "Yes!"
Because my arms felt rekt the day after this training session, but my legs were perfectly fine. I wanted my whole body to feel the burn. I like full-body workouts, thank you very much.

Despite my struggles, Coach G-Force continued to tell other trainers and gym-goers that I'm "strong", but on this day, he also said I'm his "pambato". I don't know what that Filipino word means, but I'm gonna roughly translate it to "chosen". (I need a better translation.) I reckon, if Coach G-Force could choose one of his trainees to step into the ring, he would choose me.

I watched Coach G-Force's video of him training Ogie Alcasid, a Filipino celebrity singer. I think he has trained with Coach G-Force for years, but his punches were, at best, the same as my noob level. To be honest, I expected him to be faster than me, considering the footage I've seen in the news showing other Filipino celebrity actors training in martial arts, and they're pretty darn fast.
I told Coach G-Force that I watch Ogie Alcasid boxing, and that I think I'm faster than him. Coach G-Force replied, "Because Ogie is 50 years old, and you're 19 years old."
I rebutted, "But you sparred with a 60-year-old Japanese, and he was pretty fast! I think Ogie has more potential than what I saw!"
I know it's selfish, but it feels really good to know that I outspeed even some Filipino celebrities. Developing one's potentials turns an average Joe into a fountain of knowledge.

Who Cares About Shyness?
CAUTION: This contains Hopeless Romantic-related garbage.

During my rest breaks, I often watch and analyze Coach G-Force's other trainees. Many of them have similar power and speed, leaning towards the newbie level, but that's no surprise to me. It takes willpower and determination to become strong.

The particular trainee I saw on this day was a fairly young and slightly chubby woman having Muay Thai training. (I'm not giving a fake name.) She was about the same as newbie level on the first few rounds, but became faster and hit harder on the next rounds. Talk about ramping up the difficulty level. (Maybe I've been putting too much effort even though I've been telling myself to do chip damage. I suppose it's in my nature to be ready for anything Coach G-Force throws at me.)

When she had her rest break, she sat about more than arm's length away from me and fixed her things while I played with my own imagination, thinking about what moves to use on my imaginary enemies.
Coach G-Force then introduced us to each other by telling us each other's names. I calmly offered to shake her hand, and she accepted. I then went back to my internal combat analyses to focus my mind away from the pain in my muscles and prepare for the next round.

After our training, I started a chat with her, saying "Are you (name)? You were pretty fast. How long have you been training?"
"2 years," she said. "It's been a long time since I've last trained. When was the first time you trained?"
"I trained in boxing since I was 14 years old."
"Oh yeah? How old are you now?"
"I'm 19 years old."
"Wow, so you've been training for a long time! I train just to lose weight, you know."
"Alright, good to know," I said lazily.
"Oh wait, my transport is this way. I gotta go."
"Okay, bye," I said with anticipated disappointment. Oh well, no big deal--I'm not at Gold's Gym to chat. I'm there to become super strong to adapt to the physical challenges of life.

Weird moral lesson: If you have a crush on someone you don't know, talk to him/her like you would with another normal person. Start with a topic about something you two have in common.

I'M DONE WITH SCHOOL! (for now)

Image from GIPHY

FREAKING FINALLY, I'VE FINISHED ALL MY SCHOOL WORK!

I CAN FINALLY SLACK OFF ALL I WANT THIS CHRISTMAS WITHOUT UPOU TELLING ME WHAT TO DO! BEST GIFT EVER!

But, my mind is tired for now because of my previous exam. I need a big break.

I might start getting serious again with my blog, player4709, Coach G-Force, and my other life shenanigans starting November 24.

Here are my plans for school break, copied from my October 25 inactivity post:

CAUTION: This has references to Christianity.

I know tacticians are supposed to plan ahead, but I don't have specific plans for Christmas.
The only Christmas gift I can give is a prayer that everyone in the world, including you, the reader, will be blessed for years to come.
By the way, I'd like friendly letters and artworks for my Christmas gifts. (Narcissistic, I know.) Send them to me on Facebook:facebook.com/LunaticTactician

  • I want to focus on quality maintenance for my blog, meaning I will clean up posts that look childish, cringey, or lazy to myself. Some posts may be deleted entirely.
  • I'll write posts that I promised to do before, including my third boxing match against YoSquid.
  • I may also continue Pest Control: Pokémon Edition, but I won't talk about a specific region per post, since I'm lazy. Instead, I'll pick two Pokémon from each region (except Kanto, since I did that already) that I think are the most harmful to humanity.
Edit: I added a section for the Paras evolutionary line in the Kanto post, which heavily references The Last of Us.
  • I still have 16 training sessions left with Coach G-Force, and I think I'll "consume" them completely on February 2019. I'll try and blog about every single training session.
  • I'll play a modded Minecraft survival with player4709 using the Bytesize modpack. I'll try and blog about the significant moments.
Edit: We had a dry run of Bytesize with a friend of player4709 who I will call Mr. Nonlinear (named after nonlinear functions, since I think he's one of the top Math students). Neither I nor Mr. Nonlinear had any idea what the Bytesize mods do, so we got obliterated by the weird variety of creepers, and were bamboozled by the various ores. I need to do some more training on this.
Edit 2: I've played a TON of Bytesize by myself each time I finished a tough piece of school work. Now that I know what I'm doing, I'm less likely to screw up.

Release of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!

Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! have been released, and let me tell you: THE HYPE HAS PAID OFF.

I have exams on November 17, 18, and 20, so I can't make a lot of comments about the new games. (In fact, I'm not even training with Coach G-Force, allowing me to focus on school work.)
Edit: I'M DONE WITH SCHOOL!

I did look at the leaks, though, particularly the stats, movesets, TMs, and the important Trainer battles. Yes, unfortunately, I spoiled myself on who the Champion and the 8th Gym Leader are, but other than those, I didn't spoil myself on the story.
The TMs are not the same as the ones in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, so I screwed up there.

I'm not actually planning to get the new games since I don't have a Nintendo Switch and...you know, family budget and all that garbage preventing parents from buying toys for their kids.

On November 25, I'll update my team for the new games.

My Team for Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!: https://reallunatictactician.blogspot.com/2018/06/my-team-for-pokemon-lets-go-eevee.html

Edit that's unrelated to Pokémon: I had a Day 6 training with Coach G-Force last week. The only unique thing about it was me trying the Minecraft strafing technique in boxing.

Remembering Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) Victims

On November 8, 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan (known here in the Philippines as Yolanda) hit the Visayas group of islands in the Philippines, obliterating entire cities, killing thousands of people, and leaving millions displaced.

Today, we fondly remember the loved ones who passed away due to the typhoon, and strive to improve our lives and be more ready for disasters.

That's all I have to say. Sorry, I got lazy.
